Our stop at Port Said, to await our turn in the southbound convoy was a pleasant break in the seagoing routine of tanker life. Although there was no shore leave, we could at least see the land. We used to gather on the bridge and watch out to see if there were any BI ships in the northbound convoy when it passed (some people with envy, wishing they could change places with someone else on the other ship).
